It encompasses nine municipalities and regulates the quality of wines produced from approximately 32,000 to 40,942 hectares of vineyards. The region supports around 4,500 to 7,000 viticulturist families and features 95 to 116 registered wineries, making wine a key economic driver. With a viticultural tradition that spans 2,700 years, DO Utiel-Requena is known for its native red grape, Bobal, which constitutes 74-75% of the vineyards. The region primarily produces robust red wines, alongside fresher whites, rosés, and sparkling varieties. The wines are recognized for their quality, with aging categories that include crianza, reserva, and gran reserva.
