In the spring of 1934, during the height of the Great Depression, thirteen captains and engineers came together in Reykjavík, Iceland, to form a production company. Their mission was to address a critical shortage of commercial fishing gear—specifically trawl nets, tows, and fishing lines—for the Icelandic fishing fleet. They named the company HAMPIDJAN.
