The most in-demand people in the industry make decisions based on metrics and user behavior. This profession is called a Product Manager. There's a common belief that ideas or hypotheses are "worth nothing." That's a myth. A fast product team tests 2–4 hypotheses per month. The cost of such a team ranges from 300,000 to 4+ million rubles monthly. That means each hypothesis effectively costs between 150,000 and 1+ million rubles. Good product managers make decisions that succeed more often — and cost less. Before testing any hypothesis, a product manager evaluates its potential impact on business growth. By understanding metrics and unit economics, we can filter out 70% of ideas that simply cannot produce any meaningful effect. Even more, we can identify parts of the product where small metric improvements create significant business outcomes. This approach is called Data-Driven Decision Making. Market leaders rely on it. To develop these skills, a product manager needs to build 3–5 products. At the end of the day, our brain is a neural network. And neural networks train on datasets with feedback loops. In practice, the best way to train product managers is through case-based learning — so they make mistakes on someone else's cases, not on their own products. Lecture formats don't work. Product managers need hands-on practice. Most product courses teach theory and share stories. Lectures happen in class, and practice is left for homework.
