Virgocoop is a French Cooperative Society of Collective Interest (SCIC) established in 2018 and based in Cahors. The cooperative operates a defibering plant in Caylus and a weaving workshop in Saint Affrique les Montagnes. Virgocoop is dedicated to revitalizing local hemp production to create an ecological and ethical textile sector, engaging citizens, farmers, businesses, and communities as shareholders. The cooperative focuses on sustainable textiles, emphasizing organic agriculture and traceability. It has achieved GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification for its hemp fibers, making it one of only two GOTS-certified hemp producers in Europe. Virgocoop produces organic hemp fibers and yarns, which are used in textiles like denim and construction insulation. The cooperative also explores innovative blends with materials such as wool and cotton. With a reported turnover of €300,000 in 2023, Virgocoop aims to reach €1 million in 2024 and is open to partnerships with producers, processors, and fashion brands.
