Built in 1922 by noted theatre architect John Eberson, it was the first atmospheric theatre in the United States. The Orpheum Theatre has withstood the test of time and is the center for performing arts in downtown Wichita. With a full capacity of 1,286, the Orpheum offers a unique, intimate setting for the best in world-class entertainment. The historic theatre also serves as a community asset by featuring local performances, classic an indie film screenings, special events and more. Since 1984 it has been operating as the non-profit, the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre, LTD, solely created for the success and preservation of the Orpheum Theatre as a premier performing arts venue in the heart of downtown Wichita.
